What is Project Based Learning?
Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method that furthers student understanding by posing real-world questions and problems in a social setting. Successful PBLs must be driven by an authentic question, use real-world tools, and be learner centric. At the end of the experience, teachers must be able to assess student understanding (Barron, et al., 1998).How does PBL help students learn?
Some educators are hesitant to use PBL in their classroom because they think that PBL is complex and more appropriate for advanced learners. However, PBL is appropriate for learners of all ages and abilities, as long as you have authenticity and ownership behind the initial project (Lih-Juan & ChanLin, 2008).

We have researched both secondary and elementary PBL experiences and have found that PBL strives for deeper understanding, ownership, and responsibility of student learning.

How do we integrate technology into PBL?
Some of the best PBL experiences use technology as a resource to further understanding. Technology helps level the playing field for all ages and abilities of learners. Although technology is not the answer to PBL, it is an effective tool to use throughout the PBL process (Means & Olson, 1995).
